The Desired Effect: Ndidi Ekubia (Copy)

Ndidi Ekubia, MBE is one of my very favorite silversmiths! I wrote about her for Metalsmith Magazine last year, and was as captivated by her aura as by her vessels. Ndidi is a Nigerian British maker and teacher based in Manchester, England where she creates the most extraordinary work. Her sculptures are stunning: rhythmic, undulating and sublimely textured. She also makes jewelry and other items and was a featured artist in Sotheby’s Brilliant and Black: The Age of Enlightenment (“an exhibition of 25 of the worlds leading Black jewelry designers”] in 2022. Recently, I discovered this video from the Victoria and Albert Museum and it’s lovely: part interview, part demo, part exploration, all inspiration! Have a go at it and be inspired. XO
